Brach Tiller is a contemporary artist who was born in 1991. Based in Detroit, he received his BFA from Bowling Green State University and obtained his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2021.
Working predominantly in oil and acrylic, his paintings are created in a clean and methodical manner. This fastidious mode of painting creates a finished surface that is clean and flat, blurring the real and the simulated. He develops his compositions in a software space so as to present realities that are recognizable, yet unclear. As he deliberately renders uncanny forms and physics, a new discourse is generated that confuses the original understanding of these objects. In a surrounding spectacle, the unfamiliar presents an odd and unrealized future that mimics the real in a theatrical display. As object and subject cross-pollinate, the transformation of the familiar promotes a broad subjectivity that transcends identity and makes flux beautiful. In a world of cross-embedded media, new means of communication are rapidly, and fundamentally, altering our individual interactions. Brach exploits the nuance of body language so as to resolve this complicated dilemma and examine the ways in which our manners, relationships, and feelings synergize with the virtual field. Subsisting in the gradient between human and non-human, his work highlights these new forms of expression and reveals our molten fluidity that questions the very category of human.
Tiller’s work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across the United States as well as numerous international group exhibitions.
